Aruba’s Push for Creative Industries

October 15, 2024

During the recent CreActivo Conference, organized by GoCultura Foundation, Minister Geoffrey Wever announced the launch of the Qreative Business Academy, an initiative in partnership with Qredits, aimed at supporting creative talent and fostering entrepreneurship within the sector. The academy will serve as a hub for nurturing creative talent, providing the tools and education necessary for creatives to become successful entrepreneurs. The program aims to bridge the gap between creativity and commercial viability, ensuring that the talent emerging from Aruba can thrive not only locally but also in the global market.

Creative Industries as an Economic Pillar

The Ministry of Economic Affairs has made the creative industry a top priority in its economic policy, as this sector aligns with Aruba’s long-term vision of diversifying its economy, reducing reliance on traditional industries, and fostering innovative, resilient business environments. On August 29, 2023, the Ministerial Council approved a policy paper titled ‘Development of the Orange Economy in San Nicolas’. The execution of this plan is progressing steadily, with a focus on prioritizing creative development and making San Nicolas a hub for the creative industry. This will help position the creative sector as a cornerstone of Aruba’s economy.

Launch of Qreative Business Academy

Earlier this year, participants took part in the Symposium Orange Economy in San Nicolas, where they provided recommendations for strengthening the creative industry. Based on these recommendations, Minister Wever announced the launch of the Qreative Business Academy, a creative center designed to guide, support, and expand creative entrepreneurship. As part of this academy, the Minister also announced the development of the Creative Entrepreneurship Fund, which will provide financial assistance to startups and growing businesses in the creative sector. The fund aims to reduce financial barriers for creatives and help them expand their business operations.
