‘Open Call’ to Boost Local Egg Production in Aruba

October 2, 2024

Minister Geoffrey Wever of Economic Affairs, Commerce, and Industry has announced an exciting opportunity for businesses interested in investing in Aruba’s local egg production sector. Through an ‘Open Call’, the Aruban government invites local and international companies to contribute to the island’s goal of achieving 100% self-sufficiency in egg production by 2026. This initiative follows the Aruba government’s commitment to reduce reliance on imported eggs and stimulate the local agricultural sector, fostering economic growth and sustainability. The call encourages companies to invest in the local market by leveraging Aruba’s strategic location, supportive policies, and growing demand for locally-produced eggs.

Why Invest in Aruba’s Egg Production?

Minister Wever emphasized that the government has been committed to supporting local egg producers through various initiatives, including tax incentives and industry consultation. In 2023 alone, Aruba imported 738 million eggs, and local production only accounted for 15% of the total egg consumption. With the demand for eggs on the rise and local production growing, this open call represents a unique opportunity for companies to help Aruba meet its ambitious goals. “The objective is to achieve 100% local egg production by 2026,” Minister Wever stated. The government aims to create an industry that not only supplies the island but also potentially exports eggs, creating new business and investment opportunities in the agricultural sector.

The open call is currently active, and businesses interested in participating are encouraged to submit their applications by October 11, 2024.
