Strengthening Fair Trade and Competitive Practices in Aruba

September 30, 2024

Aruba continues to make strides in enhancing its competitive environment through a strategic collaboration with the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). As part of this partnership, experts from ACM are working closely with the Aruba Fair Trade Authority (AFTA). Their mission is to guide AFTA in developing the preconditions necessary for managing fair competition in the market. The support is financed through the TWO-Netherlands program, which has enabled key advancements in ensuring robust competition laws in Aruba, providing a favorable investment climate.

Minister Geoffrey Wever, Aruba’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Communication, and Sustainable Development, inaugurated the new AFTA office in Oranjestad in December 2023. From January 2024, AFTA plays a key role in enforcing Aruba’s competition regulations, focusing on preventing monopolies, price-fixing, and other anti-competitive practices. The expert guidance from ACM ensures that Aruba is equipped with the expertise needed to uphold transparency and fairness in the local market, fostering a healthy business ecosystem for both local and international investors.

This development strengthens Aruba’s appeal to investors seeking a stable and fair market. AFTA’s work will help guarantee the integrity of business transactions while promoting economic growth.
